This is a New Old Stock piece which comes with its original tag and has never been worn. The tag reads "Filigranas Somar Sterling Silver Made in Portugal". 800 sterling silver was a popular purity of silver used by jewelers during this time period. The band of the ring is made out of handcrafted filigree, heart-shaped motifs in the Sweetheart style.

There is some wear to the gold wash revealing the sterling silver beneath; however, this is not immediately noticeable and does not affect wear. The price has been reduced to reflect this.

It involves stamping out a design in metal and hand bending and twirling threads, combined with tiny beads, until a final motif emerges.

It is reminiscent of lace and considered one of the most difficult metalworking processes. Filigree is still a very popular technique in India and Asia.
