Item Measurements: The necklace has a length of 19.5. The bottom pendant measures 2.48" tall by 2.84" wide. The dangles are approximately 4" long and are included in the overall length of 19.5".

The lavaliere pendant was made. Using the repoussé technique, and has a small hole on the edge that was left to allow heat to escape while the Sterling Silver was being formed.

The pendant is shaped like a cloud, and features a Chinese woman in a natural scene including buildings, a way, flowers and the sun depicted. The face of the pendant is accented with floral and swirl designs as well. Hanging from the cloud are three long chains that end with Sterling Silver acorn rattles that jingle with the necklace moves. There are also two dangles which dangle above the main pendant.

Chinese export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960's. In a lot of ways, Chinese export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today.

During these periods, Chinese craftsmen, including jewelers and stone cutters, were considered by far the best in the world. The wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler. They drafted a design which was then sent to China to be crafted and sent back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today. Lavalieres are necklaces that included a chain or small link necklace, fairly long, that terminates in a single large pendant or tassel, which in turn often has additional pendants or tassels dangling from it; though named for a mistress of Louis XIV, the style is usually associated with turn-of-the-20th century jewelry, and remained popular into the 1930s.

Repoussé is an ancient metal-working technique. It involved shaping malleable silver first formed with an uniquely crafted three-dimensional mold. After the silver was formed from the mold, it was then further refined by hammering from the reverse side which added details to the front. The finished work was an intricate piece with grooves, indentations, and channeling.
